Issue Fix Priority - Legend
Urgent – Very critical issue hindering with the game functions. Needs fixing right away
Important – Issue that affects the user experience but not critical. Needs fixing ASAP
Minor – Minor issues which can be pushed to the end of needs fixing list
Issue # 1 | Priority Level : Minor
Issue # 2 | Priority Level : Important
Car does not zoom when after selecting Tap to Zoom: When players click the “Tap to Zoom”, the footer options pointed in green arrows retracts down and the car does not actually zoom. This is misleading and does not fulfil Zoom functionality. This is misleading to the players and must be fixed.
Purchasing a car
Issue # 3 | Priority Level : Important
Swipe to view cars message bar overlaps the car colour selection: While purchasing the car for the first time the “Swipe to view cars” message box (circled in blue) is overlapping with the colour selection. The message box does not disappear unless the player swipes for new car selection. If the player wants to stick to the first car selection and change colour they have to swipe to the next brand of car and come back.
Suggestion: Players must not be forced to navigate to a different brand of car if they wish to stay in the current page. If this message box is part of the tutorial, make changes to the game where the players can tap on the screen and the message box disappears.
Issue # 4 | Priority Level : Minor
Car does not zoom when after selecting Tap to Zoom: What is the difference between Loved and Unloved (circled in blue)? I was able to understand over the course of using the application but it will be hard for a mobile users who are not tech saavy.
Suggestion: Make sure to describe the difference between Loved and Unloved in the Tutorial of the game. Do not make the players who are not familiar with technology wonder different options mean. They are likely to stop using the application if they do not understand the application or get flustered.
Customizing and Upgrading a Car
Issue # 5 | Priority Level : Urgent
Could not understand if the decal has been applied: After applying the decal over the unloved version of the car, the player cannot see the if the decal has been applied on the roof in some angles as shown in the image in the right unless it is manually oriented. This is because of the angle displayed in the image, rusty look and lighting over the car. New game players may not what decals are and will not know of the changes made.
Suggestion: The customization page must be designed in a way where when decal option is selected display must orient itself to the roof/ the side of the car where the design is applied. Same applies to the logo and other customization options.
Issue # 6 | Priority Level : Important
Cars and upgrades shown in green even when there are not enough funds: The upgrade or customization options are shown in green even if there are no enough funds (find image on the left). This gives the impression for the player that the upgrade is available as green is a colour generally associated with the item being available.
Suggestion: When there are not enough funds for a specific upgrade or customization, the option can be displayed in a different colour to indicate there are not enough funds or the upgrade is not available. This provides a clear distinction between what is available and not available for the funds the player has.
Issue # 7 | Priority Level : Urgent
Challenge description message is visible only for 1.6 seconds: After selecting the race from the map, the loading page (image on right) which provides the race description is displayed only for 1.6 seconds which is very less time for players to read the entire page. It would be even harder to follow in that time frame for players whose first language is not English.
Suggestion: It is important for the players to understand the purpose of the race/ task. During my test session an average of five different reading sessions showed that it takes 12.22 seconds to read the instruction in the loading screen. Developers must make sure that enough time is given for players to read instructions before proceeding to the race.
Issue # 7 | Priority Level : Urgent
Issue # 8 | Priority Level : Important
Race location and Mechanic in the same map: During the initial game level the map shown in the left is mentioned to the players as race map and as the level progresses the mechanic option is given inside the map. This is confusing. Is it a race location map or a combination of other options
Suggestion: It is easier to understand options in the application/ game if it is grouped together. It is advisable to move the mechanic option to the customization/ upgrade page or to the Buy car page. This allows players to recruit mechanics as they modify or buy their car. This will in turn reduce navigation between screens thereby increasing ease of use and less cumbersome.
Issue # 9 | Priority Level : Important
Could not switch between Rookie, Amateur and Pro in Regulation race in Level 1: In Level 1 when the RR task is activated, the player could not switch between ‘Rookie’, ‘Amateur’ and ‘Pro’ mode. Why can I switch different difficulty levels? Do I need more experience and have higher levels? Is the car not equipped enough? It’s confusing.
Suggestion: It is always necessary to provide feedback to the player is trying to select an option and the button is deactivated. Developers need to make sure, there is feedback to the players who try to select Amateur or Pro levels. Provide reason in a message box on why the player can select Pro mode. This guides the player in the right path to achieve Pro level
Issue # 10 | Priority Level : Urgent
Font size is small: The font size in the map is very small and hard to read in a iphone 6s device which indicates it is difficult to read in any device having screen size less than or equal to 5.5 inches. This causes eye strain for low vision players and players who need corrective lenses.
Suggestion: Increase the font size in the map and throughout the game to 12 pt. Research has shown that a 12 pt size font is easier to read for both sighted and visually limited screen users with corrective lenses. Make changes throughout the game.
Issue # 11 | Priority Level : Urgent
Hard to play shift up gear with thumbs: It is hard to shift up gear with left hand especially if the player has small hands. It is hard for the left thumb to reach across the screen while playing in landscape mode and holding a 5.5 inch screen at the same time. This task becomes harder as the screen becomes bigger. The only solution is to place the device on the table and use independent index fingers to play the game easier.
Suggestion: It is advisable to move the gear shift to the bottom left end of the screen so it will be easier to for all players to reach their left hand thumb to press shift up gear easily. Detailed screen recording with participants is needed to decide exactly where the gear shift must be placed in the screen.
Issue # 12 | Priority Level : Urgent
Font size is small: When the race starts the gas pedal disappears from the screen (question mark in the left image). So how are the players supposed to accelerate the cars if the gas pedal disappears? The pedal is visible during countdown in the image in Issue # 11 of this document, but disappears when the race starts. This makes the game frustrating and less interesting. Is this supposed to happen? This might force the players to uninstall the game.
Suggestion: Developers need to make sure the gas pedal is present throughout the race till the end to increase playability.
